Taylor Plays at Butler in Exhibition
INDIANAPOLIS – In a return to head coach Cassie Wiseman's alma mater, the Taylor women's basketball team traveled to Hinkle Fieldhouse at NCAA Division I, Butler University Friday night for an exhibition contest, where it was defeated 99-48.
The Bulldogs opened and closed the first half on 12-0 and 15-2 runs, respectively, to take a 50-18 halftime lead. TU played Butler tough, though, heading into and coming out of the second quarter break.
Whitney Warfel got Taylor on the board first with a jumper, and Ava Henson found her stroke as she led the Purple and Grey with eight first-half points. Warfel had four points, while Quinn Kelly secured three rebounds to lead TU.
McKayah Musselman connected on two buckets midway through the third quarter. Moments later, the Trojans made their first three-pointers of the night courtesy of Maddie Drye and Ainsley West, but the Bulldogs maintained a commanding lead.
Drye made another triple midway through the fourth quarter, and freshman Kalyn Bunch notched a late scoring spurt with a three-pointer of her own and a pair of free throws.
Henson finished with a team-high 12 points, while Drye was not too far behind with an efficient eight points in 11 minutes of action.
Taylor (2-0) has a quick turnaround to NAIA action when it hosts Trinity Christian (0-0) Saturday at 5 p.m. inside Odle Arena.
