Trojans’ Defense Stingy in Win Over Eagles
SALEM, Ore.– The RV Taylor women's soccer team (2-0-0) defeated Northwest (0-2-0) 1-0 Thursday afternoon in a neutral-site game hosted by Corban University.
The Trojans out-shot the Eagles 7-1 and controlled possession much of the first half, but they were unable to score. Taylor's defense stepped up when it was needed though, as it shut down two corner kick opportunities. Goalie Hannah Brackenbury saved the only shot she faced in the first 45 minutes, which came with under two minutes remaining in the period.
TU finally broke through 12 minutes into the second half when Claire Massey intercepted a pass just shy of midfield and turned up the right sideline before dumping it into the corner. From there, the Trojans centered the ball to Chloe Sena, who quickly set up Kiana Siefert in front of the net for the goal. Siefert's goal and Sena's assist were firsts for both of them in 2023.
Northwest fired the last four shots (two on goal) of the match, but Brackenbury and company remained perfect to seal the victory.
The shutout was TU's second in as many games to begin the season. Brackenbury played the full match, as she saved five shots and improved her season record to 2-0.
Four Trojans —Siefert, Sena, Libby Thomas, and Audrey Grimm— had multiple shots on goal as Taylor won the category over Northwest 11-5.
The Trojans will stay in Salem, Ore., to play host-Corban (1-2-0) on Saturday at 5 p.m.
