GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Taylor women's soccer team (2-1-2) dropped its match to Cornerstone University (2-1-0) 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans mightily outpaced the Golden Eagles early and often, leading to a lopsided halftime stat sheet that saw TU take 16 shots (nine on goal) compared to CU's two shots.
Despite the breakaways and chances generated by Taylor's crisp passes through the first 45 minutes, there was no score entering the second period.
Cornerstone took advantage of the missed Trojan opportunities, as it capitalized in the 66th minute with a strong kick by Tori Woodwyk that found the back of the net and broke the tie.
Claire Massey, Kiana Siefert and Audrey Grimm each took at least five shots for TU, with the latter two recording multiple shots on goal to lead the Trojans' attack. The 25 total shots taken as a team were its most since it took 29 in a season-opening, 5-0 victory against Concordia on Aug. 17.
The defensive unit for Taylor continued its strong play to begin the season, posting its fifth consecutive game allowing one or zero goals allowed. Hannah Brackenbury (2-1-2) made three saves on the day, all of which came in the second half.
#RV Taylor stays on the road next week for a pair of games, beginning with a matchup at Madonna (2-1-0) on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 4 p.m.
