Trojans Stay Hot in Shutout Over Tigers
UPLAND, Ind. – The #RV Taylor Trojans closed out their nonconference schedule with their third consecutive victory Tuesday afternoon, as they defeated Georgetown College 4-0 at Turner Stadium.
Georgetown (4-2-2) came into the night averaging nearly three and a half goals per game, but the Trojan defense limited the Tigers to just six shots (three on goal) over the entire match.
Taylor (5-1-2) got on the board in the 18th minute on a penalty kick taken by Audrey Grimm. Grimm fired the shot past GC's goalie Daysia Thompson for her third goal of the season and first since her two-goal performance on opening night, Aug. 17 versus Concordia.
In the 33rd minute, TU increased its lead to 2-0 on a strike from Maegen Hill, which was set up by Eliza Luttrell. Hill's goal was the freshman's first, and it occurred one game after she recorded her first collegiate assist.
The Trojans increased their lead to three just before halftime with a goal from Leah McQuade, assisted by Emma Carrell. The score marked McQuade's first of her career, while Carrell was credited with her first assist of the season.
With the lead built up at 3-0, head coach Scott Stan brought in Brianna Rawlings to replace starter Hannah Brackenbury at goalie at halftime to close out the match for the third straight contest. Nearly two-thirds of the way through the second period, the TU lead increased to four on McQuade's second goal of the game, which came courtesy of Luttrell's second assist. The two assists for Luttrell marked the first points of the freshman's career.
Brackenbury earned the win to improve her record to 5-1-2, while she added two saves. Rawlings made the only save required of her to preserve the shutout. The combined shutout was the third of the season thus far for Taylor, and the fourth shutout in total.
The Trojans are back in action Saturday, Sept. 23, at Saint Francis (3-4-2) to begin Crossroads League play. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. in Fort Wayne, Ind.
