UPLAND, Ind. – RV Taylor (7-1-2, 2-0-0 CL) extended its season-long winning streak to five games Wednesday night with a 4-1 victory over Grace (2-7-0, 0-2-0) at Turner Stadium.
Lauren Collins scored the match's first goal in the seventh minute with a deep strike that split the Lancer goalkeeper and the left post. The goal was the second in as many games for Collins, as she surpassed the 25-career point threshold on the kick.
The Trojans, who played very steadily throughout the half and limited GC's chances, bookended the first period with another dazzling goal on a free kick from the left foot of Brooke Cimini to put them up 2-0.
TU outshot Grace 13-3 in the half, including holding the Lancers without a shot attempt in the half's final 20 minutes of play.
GC came out attacking early after the intermission however, as it netted its lone goal of the night in the 47th minute.
The Trojans quickly responded to the early energy from Grace, though, and they netted a goal on the strength of two seniors in the 58th minute to put TU back on top by a pair of goals. Claire Massey's cross to Chloe Sena was well executed as Sena knocked home her team-leading seventh score on the play. Sena increased her career points total to 35 with the goal, while Massey's assist was her first of the season.
Leah McQuade took advantage of a relatively open field in front of the net to register Taylor's fourth goal of the game, as Cimini picked up her third point of the night with the assist. McQuade has now scored in three consecutive matches, as the freshman has tallied goals on four of her last seven shot attempts.
Hannah Brackenbury played all 90 minutes in net for TU and earned her seventh victory of the season. Her three saves on the night were highlighted by a leaping deflection in the 70th minute that preserved TU's two-goal lead at the time.
Taylor finished the match with a strong advantage in shots (on goal) with 30 (15) compared to 11 (4) from the Lancers. The 30 shots taken for the Trojans marked the third time in four games they have accomplished that feat.
TU looks to keep its offense rolling when it travels to No. 6 Marian (8-1-1, 1-1 CL) in its first matchup against a ranked opponent this season. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at St. Vincent Field in Indianapolis, Ind.
