INDIANAPOLIS –Caleb Van Dop scored his first collegiate goal in a 2-1 defeat to RV Marian (8-2-2, 1-1-1 CL) on the road on Wednesday night in Crossroads League action.
The Trojans and Knights were battling in a 0-0 match throughout most of the first half until mere seconds from the halftime whistle. A penalty was given and converted by Marian, which completely shifted the tone of the match.
Marian, then doubled its advantage less than ten minutes after the restart for a commanding 2-0 lead.
Taylor (4-4-2, 0-2-1 CL) did not relent and was rewarded in the 77th minute with a goal from freshman Van Dop. Justin Devlin provided his fourth assist of the season and seventh of his TU career on the goal.
The Trojans mustered a trio of corners in the final minutes but could not capitalize to secure a 2-1 loss on the road.
Matt Yoder and Elias Munoz tied for the lead with a pair of shots each, and Sam Spiegel recorded three saves in the defeat.
Taylor travels to Mount Vernon Nazarene (5-1-5, 2-0-1 CL) for its next Crossroads League contest on Saturday, October 5, with kick-off scheduled for 4:00 pm.
