Taylor Honors a Trio of Seniors Before 2-1 Defeat
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor (5-8-3, 1-6-2 CL) honored its three seniors before its season finale inside Turner Stadium on Wednesday night.
Sam Spiegel, Bryce Lawrence, and Levi Yoder were honored before the match, as all three have played in every season and been stalwarts for the Trojan program over the past four seasons.
Taylor fell 2-1 against Goshen in a back-and-forth match, which saw 38 shots, 17 corner kicks, and 13 saves from the two CL teams.
Goshen controlled the beginning of play, but Spiegel kept the Maple Leafs off the scoreboard with a trio of saves inside the first ten minutes. Spiegel totaled eight saves in the match and finished the season with the highest saves per match in the Crossroads League at 6.3.
Taylor then got a foot in the match and produced a goal in the 25th minute when Carlos Sanabria delivered a shot from outside the top of the box into the far corner for a 1-0 advantage.
Goshen (4-9-5, 1-6-2 CL)turned the pressure back up and eventually won and converted a penalty ten minutes before halftime to even the score at one going into the break.
The Trojans forced a couple of saves early in the second half as the teams tried to break the deadlock.
The Maple Leafs found the key in the 72nd minute and scored their second of the match for their first lead, which they were able to hold as TU could not find the equalizer.
Justin Devlin hit the crossbar on a shot from distance that bounced once before hitting the crossbar and going out of play, which was TU's best chance of the remaining time.
Taylor concludes the 2024 season with heads held high in Interim Head Coach Drew Glover's first year at the helm, which saw an increase in goals scored and tight matches.
