Taylor Downs NCAA DII Foe Cedarville
CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The TU men's tennis team landed a big 5-2 win over NCAA DII opponent Cedarville University on Saturday to improve their overall record to 6-3. The Trojans (6-3, 3-3) are now just one win away from recording the best win total in a fall season since the 2011-12 campaign.
TU rolled through doubles play with each Trojan tandem winning on their respective courts. Both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles duos finished with decisive 6-2 final tallies while Chase Bremner and Mitchell Mercer grinded out a 7-5 win over their CU counterparts.
With the doubles point in hand, TU continued the solid play in singles where the Trojans came up with wins in positions No. 2, 3, 4 and 5. Bremner, Christen Jacquottet and Victor Cheng each picked up two-set wins while Andre Danelli came up victorious in a three-set battle on court four, which happened to be the match-winning point.
"We had another solid performance today in doubles where we got off to a good start and never looked back," praised Coach Don Taylor. "The guys are playing really well. I like their effort and intensity. I also like the fact they are never giving up, even when they are falling behind early in matches. Hopefully, we will continue that as we move through the season."
TU will be back at home hosting Saint Francis on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. before taking part in the ITA Regionals on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
