Goshen Edges TU Men's Tennis
GOSHEN, Ind. – The Taylor men's tennis team saw their winning streak come to an end on Tuesday as they fell to the Goshen College Maple Leafs 4-3. The Trojans (7-2, 4-4) now sit at .500 in league play with two matches remaining in regular-season action.
The Trojans were off to a good start, winning the double point thanks to wins in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Andre Danelli and Christen Jacquottet landed a 6-3 win on court No. 1 while Salvador Lo Cascio and David Sandi teamed up for a 6-4 win on court two.
TU needed to win half of the singles matches but came up one shy in the narrow loss. Chase Bremner and Jacquottet were responsible for the two singles wins. Bremner, in the No. 2 singles slot, battled through a highly competitive three-set battle that saw the rookie finish on the winning side of a 7-5, 6-7, 7-5 marathon match. Jacquottet's win came after his GC counterpart retired. Jacquottet was up 6-2, 3-0 when the match was called.
"This was another great match," noted Coach Don Taylor. "Our guys fought hard and played well down to the end but just came up short. I've very proud of their effort, and it's one of those matches that could have gone either way."
Taylor will be at home for the final time this fall on Thursday. TU will play host to league foe Huntington at 4:00 p.m.
