Trojans Fall in League Finale
UPLAND, Ind. – In their final regular season home match of the fall, the TU men's tennis team lost a back-and-forth brawl against Huntington 5-2. Taylor (7-5, 4-5) slips below .500 in league play for the first time since late August and finishes sixth in the league standings.
After TU and HU split decisions on courts No. 1 and No. 2, the doubles point came down to the result on court three. Taylor's Chase Bremner and Seth Graves battled to the finish but fell in a 7-6 (7) decision, and the Foresters headed into singles play up 1-0.
In singles, four of the six courts went to three sets. The first singles contest to finish was on court No. 3 where TU's Christen Jacquottet picked up a two-set win by a score of 6-4, 6-2 to pull the contest to 1-1. However, the tides turned in favor of the guests as back-to-back, three-set marathon matches went HU's way on courts four and five. Trailing 3-1, the match-clinching victory came in another three-set duel that saw Bremner narrowly fall to Rodrigo Menzo. In No. 1 singles, David Sandi was TU's only three-set winner, coming from behind to win 6-7(5), 6-4, 7-5.
"This league is just so tough," said Coach Don Taylor. "Huntington is one of those teams that we are very competitive against. Our guys played their hearts out, but some of the matches just didn't go our way. I'm proud of our guys. On another day things may go our way, but we couldn't get it done today."
The Trojans will finish the regular season schedule on Saturday with a non-league match against Indiana Tech.
