Trojans Season Ends in League Quarterfinals
WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The TU men's tennis team saw their season come to a close on Tuesday as they fell to third-seeded Grace College in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Crossroads League Postseason Tournament. Taylor (7-6, 4-6) will break for the remainder of the fall and be back in action this spring.
The Trojans had a slow start and dropped all three doubles matches, which put the first point on the board in favor of the Lancers and put TU behind the eight ball as they moved into singles play.
Grace was able to pick up quick wins on courts five and six that pushed their lead to 3-0. Salvador Lo Cascio gave TU their first point of the match, winning in a three-set battle over Milan Savic 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-1 in the No. 4 position. At the top of the order, the Trojans and Lancers tangled into some extremely competitive matches. The match came to a close at the conclusion of the No. 1 singles contest where TU's David Sandi surrendered a three-set thriller to unbeaten Max Rozas. Following that match-clinching decision, Grace's No. 2 and No. 3 retired, landing the final tally at 4-3. At the point of the retirements, Chase Bremner and Pavle Popvic were in set three of a close battle while Christen Jacquottet was nearing a two-set match victory over Fabricio Galvan.
"We are disappointed with the loss," noted Coach Don Taylor. "However, our guys fought hard. It was another one of those grueling matches that was close, but we just came up a little short. It could have been discouraging after doubles, but they came back and battled."
