SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – A late comeback in the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader against Spring Arbor denied Taylor (19-15, 11-9 CL) of a season and series split, with the Trojans falling, 6-4 and 8-0, in the double dose of action.
Kaylee Larkin had a tremendous game to put TU in position to secure a victory, belting a home run and driving in all four runs of the second game.
Larkin got the scoring going in the top of the first with a solo home run and then delivered a key three-RBI single to clear the bases and give TU a 4-1 advantage.
Mackenzie Noah had terrifically navigated a plethora of runners, leaving at least one runner on base in each of the five innings she finished. Noah stranded the bases loaded without the Cougars scoring in the fourth and got a fly out to end the fifth with the bases juiced and the Trojans clinging to a 4-3 lead.
The junior hurler was relieved in the sixth after surrendering a single with one out, and the Cougars took advantage of the change immediately, as three of the next four batters singled to give Spring Arbor a 6-4 lead going into the seventh.
The opener was a pitchers' duel through four innings until Spring Arbor (25-12, 17-7 CL) scored six runs with two outs to end the game earlier with an 8-0 victory for the Cougars.
Aleyah Rastetter had two hits for Taylor, who twice stranded runners on second and third in the scoreless defeat. Rastetter also drew a walk in the second game, which put her into a tie for the program record with 76.
Rastetter will look to take sole possession as TU continues the season on Wednesday, April 10, at home against No. 7 Marian (27-7, 15-5 CL), with first pitch set for 4:00 pm.
