Flight A Results | Flight B Results | Flight C Results
INDIANAPOLIS – The TU women's tennis team kicked off the 2019 fall season on Saturday with ten student-athletes participating in the Marian University Doubles Tournament.
Taylor was one of six teams participating in the tournament, which was divided in to three flights. In flight A, the Trojans were represented by Katelyn Gray and Lauryn Riegsecker. The tandem took seventh place in the flight. Gray and Riegsecker fell in the first two rounds to Camila Puente and Veronica Rydstrom from UNOH 6-4 and Emily Mast and Dyana Ortega from Marian 6-3. But the pair finished the day with a win over Kelsey Kohlmorgen and Ander Saylor from IUK 7-6 (1-5).
Kiersten Martin and Lydia Browning paired up as did Julianna Hotmire and Molly Pile. Both groups played in flight B and came away with a fifth and sixth-place finish, respectively.
TU's highest-placing duo was Ellen Durling and Julia Hofmeister who placed fourth in flight C. The team opened the day with a 7-6 (3) win but fell in the bracket's semifinals and then ultimately fell in the consolation match to Mayzie Hinkle and Mary Sayre to claim fourth. In the same bracket, TU's Maria Briz and Shelby Robbins took eighth place.
"We loved the opportunity to compete for the first time this season," noted head coach Jon Wegener. "Marian does a great job hosting this tournament. I'm proud of our ladies and saw a lot of good things to take away from today as we work to get ready for our first league match on Tuesday."
Taylor will open the Crossroads League season on Tuesday when they make the short cross-county trip to face the 9th-ranked Wildcats of Indiana Wesleyan.
