UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor women's tennis team picked up their second win in as many days with a 4-3 victory over Bethel University. The Trojans (2-2, 1-1) evened up both their regular season and league records with the win.
"The ladies came ready to play today," said Coach Jon Wegener. "We knew Bethel would bring a tough team and it would be a battle, but we had great energy and teamwork from the start."
TU picked up the very important doubles team point with wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 slots. Both duos of Katelyn Gray and Lydia Browning and Kiersten Martin and Lauryn Riegsecker bested their BU counterparts 6-2, allowing Taylor to head into singles with the slight but important one-point lead.
It was the bottom half of the lineup who clinched the overall victory for Taylor. Bethel snagged the first singles set which came from court No. 2. Martin put TU back on top with a 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 4 singles slot. BU quickly retook the lead when they earned wins on courts three and one. But Taylor had one more answer as Lydia Browning and Molly Pile secured wins on courts six and five, respectively.
"Across the board, we competed well for every point, and that's always good to see from a coach's perspective," added Wegener. "It was a good team win for us today. These ladies pushed through a very demanding week and have earned a restful weekend. We will be focused on continuing to improve as we head into a few more conference matches next week."
The Trojans will return to action on Wednesday when they make the trek over to Mount Vernon, Ohio, to face the MVNU Cougars. Wednesday's match is slated for 3:00 p.m.
