Trojans Shutout Maple Leafs
GOSHEN, Ind. – The Taylor women's tennis team picked up their first sweep of the season on Tuesday by downing Goshen College 7-0. The Trojans (7-5, 5-3) are now winners of two straight and have two regular-season contests before postseason play begins.
"It was a positive step for us today," said Coach Jon Wegener. "The ladies did a great job of being ready to play and pushing through tough situations when they came up."
TU landed wins in all three doubles matches, including a 6-0 sweep on court three by Molly Pile and Lydia Browning. Kiersten Martin and Lauryn Riegsecker picked up a solid 6-3 victory in No. 2 doubles while Julianna Hotmire and Katelyn Gray grinded out a 7-6 (7-5) win on court No. 1.
In singles, TU was nearly flawless, winning all six contests in straight sets. On courts two through six, it was a dominant performance as no Goshen player mustered more than two games in any set. Gray's singles contest mirrored her No. 1 doubles win where she battled from start to finish to earn the two-set win by a score of 7-5, 7-5.
Wegener added, "We're looking forward to honoring our seniors at our last home match on Thursday. Huntington will bring a tough team, and we'll have to be ready to play."
The last home match of the season is slated for Thursday with a 4:00 p.m. start.
