AUSTIN, Texas – The Taylor University competitive cheer team hauled in three CSC NAIA At-Large Academic All-American honors recently, with Annabel Boatwright, Emma-Kate Moore, and J. Michael Pierce being recognized for their academic excellence.
The CSC unveiled both its men's and women's list of 15 First-Team and 15 Second-Team At-Large Academic All-Americans recently, recognizing the top student-athletes from around the NAIA from the sports of lacrosse, rifle, skiing, fencing, swimming, tennis, golf, volleyball, gymnastics, water polo, hockey, wrestling and competitive cheer.
Pierce II collected the first CSC Academic All-American award of his time at Taylor with a 3.81 GPA in musical theatre. Pierce II was the lone male competitive cheer athlete to earn the distinction and collected First-Team honors
Boatwright and Moore each collected their first CSC Academic All-American selections by being named Second-Team CSC Academic All-Americans. Boatwright boasts a cumulative grade point average of 3.99 in elementary education, while Moore compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.94 in public relations.
Taylor student-athletes have now combined for 130 CSC Academic All-American honors in school history, with 128 of those awards coming since 2010. The three CSC All-American awards are the first for the young Taylor cheer program and come on the heels of its best season to date.
The CSC Academic All-American distinction is designed to recognize student-athletes for outstanding achievements, both in the classroom and on the field. To receive the honor, an athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale, must have achieved sophomore status academically with at least one full year at their current institution, and must have participated in over half of the team's competitions as a key contributor during the current season.
Student-athletes are nominated for the award by their institution's Sports Information Department and voted on by members of CSC.
