Gerig Secures CSC Academic All-American Honors
AUSTIN, Texas – The CSC NAIA Men's At-Large Academic All-Americans were announced recently, in which Reid Gerig collected the honor. The CSC unveiled its list of 15 First-Team and 15 Second-Team At-Large Academic All-Americans recently, recognizing the top men's student-athletes from around the NAIA from the sports of lacrosse, rifle, skiing, fencing, swimming, tennis, golf, volleyball, gymnastics, water polo, hockey, wrestling and competitive cheer.
Gerig becomes the second Taylor Lacrosse athlete to earn the award after Taylor Heiniger secured the award twice in his TU career. The sophomore was one of five lacrosse athletes to earn the award this year across the entire NAIA.
Gerig earned the CSC Academic All-American distinction in his first year of eligibility after posting a cumulative grade-point average of 3.80 in marketing and management. The sophomore led Taylor this season with 26 goals, averaging 2.0 scores per outing for the Trojans.
Taylor student-athletes have now combined for 130 CSC Academic All-American honors in school history, with 128 of those awards coming since 2010. Taylor lacrosse has now accounted for three CSC Academic All-Americans honors.
The CSC Academic All-American distinction is designed to recognize student-athletes for outstanding achievements, both in the classroom and on the field. To receive the honor, an athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale, must have achieved sophomore status academically with at least one full year at their current institution, and must have participated in over half of the team's competitions as a key contributor during the current season.
Student-athletes are nominated for the award by their institution's Sports Information Department and voted on by members of CSC.
