ANDERSON, Ind. – The Taylor men's tennis team picked up their first win of the spring season on Wednesday as they downed Anderson 6-3. Taylor (4-13) had taken almost a month off between opening the spring season against Ball State and returning to play this afternoon against the Ravens.
The Trojans picked up two victories in doubles play with the No. 2 and No. 3 pairings coming out victorious. In No. 2 doubles, it was Victor Cheng and Salvador Lo Cascio who produced an 8-4 win while Seth Graves and Maitland Spitters teamed up to edge out a 9-7 victory on the No. 3 doubles court.
In singles, Taylor's Christen Jacquottet, Lo Cascio, Cheng and Spitters each earned a win in their respective matches. Three of Taylor's four wins were in straight sets while Spitters battled out his victory at No. 6 singles in a three-set thriller.
"I was curious to see how we were going to play after a long layoff," noted Coach Don Taylor. "We started rusty but came back and played well in singles. Salvador Lo Cascio played very well for us in singles and in doubles. I am pleased with the win. Hopefully, this helped us knock off some of the rust, and we will play better this weekend."
Taylor returns to action this weekend with a trio of matches over the course of Friday and Saturday. All three matches will be part of the IWU Invitational.
