Men's Tennis Falls to Grace
WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Pushed indoors due to weather, the TU men's tennis team fell 4-0 in a shortened match to Grace College.
The Trojans (5-3, 3-3) got off to a slow start, dropping all three doubles matches. At the conclusion of doubles play, Taylor and Grace were forced indoors for singles where the first three sets were captured by the hosts to land TU on the wrong end of a 4-0 decision.
"They are a very good team," said Coach Don Taylor. "We got off to a slow start, but our guys fought really hard. We are not quite where they are, but our guys fought."
After falling behind with a 6-1 loss in the first set, Chase Bremner found himself in a 5-0 hole in set number two. However, the rookie continued to battle and forced a tiebreaker but ultimately fell 7-6 (3). Also battling hard for the Trojans was Christen Jacquottet who took set number one 7-6 (7) from Fabricio Galvan in No. 3 singles. That match was called after the first set when Grace won the fourth and contest-clinching match.
"The guys did not give up, and that will be a big plus for us as we get further along in the season," added Taylor. "I hope we continue to improve our skills, and that fighting attitude is going to be a big benefit for us."
Taylor will take a break from Crossroads League play this weekend to make the trip to Cedarville, Ohio, to face the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville University.
