Quartet of Trojans Receive WGCA All-American Scholar Recognition
UPLAND, Ind. – Four Taylor women's golf team members were named to the 2022-2023 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team, announced by the organization this week.
The sophomore quartet of Ellie Karst, Sabrina Langerak, Alyssa Schmidt, and Ellie Beavins were each honored with the distinction, with the trio of Karst, Langerak, and Schmidt earning the honor for a second-straight year.
A total of 1,401 women's collegiate golfers were recognized by the WGCA as All-American Scholars. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics with the minimum cumulative GPA being a 3.50 while also playing in 50 percent or more of the team's tournament rounds.
Karst, Langerak, Schmidt, and Beavins were each key contributors for a Trojan which placed in the top three in eight tournaments and spent the entire season ranked in the NAIA Top 25.
Karst showed steady improvement all season long, finishing the year with an 80.4 scoring average in 13 rounds, which included four top-20 finishes, the best being a second-place finish at the Ackerman-Allen Shootout after carding rounds of 75 and 77.
Langerak was named the First-Team All-Crossroads League after another incredible season saw the Grand Rapids, Michigan native finish in the top ten at the Crossroads League Championships. The sensational sophomore topped the field on three occasions throughout the season, while placing in the top ten eight times. Langerak finished the year with a scoring average of 77.2, which was second best on the team.
Schmidt posted an 82.2 scoring average in ten rounds. Schmidt began the season with a third place showing at the Battle at Brookwood with rounds of 75 and 78.
Beavins had a breakout sophomore season in which she played 21 rounds with a scoring average of 80.4. The Franklin, Indiana native was named Honorable Mention All-Crossroads League and recorded two top ten finishes, including finishing third after recording a career-best 73 in the final round at the Battle at Brookwood.
Karst, Langerak, Schmidt and Beavins were the only Crossroads League players to earn WGCA All-America Scholar Team honors.
