Lim and Schuitema Pace TU in Sunshine State
TAMPA BAY, Fla. – The No. 19 Taylor women's golf team continued its strong fall campaign by finishing eighth-of-19 at the loaded Invite at Innisbrook. The Trojans went toe-to-toe over the three-round event in Florida with 10 other nationally-ranked foes and finished seventh-of-11 among that group.
No. 4 SCAD Savannah took the team title with a three-round team score of plus-19, with No. 9 Dalton State, NCAA Division II Eckard, No. 8 Southeastern and No. 7 Marian rounding out the top-five.
Taylor finished in eighth, just five strokes back of No. 12 SCAD Atlanta and just one shot behind No. 17 Truett McConnell on the leaderboard. The Trojans topped No. 13 Indiana Wesleyan and No. 24 Coastal Georgia by seven shots, No. 25 Cumberland by 16 shots and No. 21 Oregon Tech by 23 shots.
The Trojans entered Tuesday's final round in 10th after posting scores of 300 and 308 on day-one at the par-71 Innisbrook Golf Resort course, but climbed two spots with a 304 over their final 18 holes.
Shayne Lim led that charge for TU, shooting a one-under par score of 70 on Tuesday to climb 18 spots on the individual leaderboard with the best single-round score of the event for Taylor. Lim's strong Tuesday followed rounds of 72 and 78 on Monday and placed the All-American just four strokes off pace of the top spot and in a tie for seventh amidst a tightly packed leaderboard.
Just two shots back of Lim is where Eleanor Schuitema finished, tying for 11th with a total score of 222. The freshman posted steady scores throughout, firing successive rounds of 74, 73 and 75 to stay near the top of the standings.
Margarita Garrido, Abby Rich and Hope Haarer were also in action, finishing 43rd, 54th and 59th in the field of 99.
No. 19 Taylor will be back on the links on September 30 and October 1 to compete at the Butler Invitational.
