Trojans Fall in League Quarterfinals
Crossroads League Tournament Central
WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The Taylor women's tennis team fell 6-3 to Grace College in the opening round of the 2018 Crossroads League Tournament on Tuesday.
With the loss, fifth-seeded Taylor (9-5, 6-3) closes their fall season while fourth-seeded Grace (13-3, 6-3) advances to the league semifinal.
Taylor fell behind 2-1 after doubles play having won in the No. 2 doubles slot with Courtney Clark and Taelor Grose. In singles, TU landed two wins in the top three positions but fell in the bottom half of the lineup, which resulted in 6-3 decision. While Alexa Kling and Katelyn Gray each landed wins, Molly Fletchall and Clark both battled their GC counterparts in three-set matches, both of which went to Grace.
"This was a very tight match as we've come to expect when playing Grace," said Coach Jon Wegener. "Our ladies fought hard and had several great opportunities. Congratulations to Grace for earning this win and moving on in the tournament. I'm very proud of our ladies, and I am looking forward to a productive off-season."
Taylor finishes the fall with a 9-5 record. They will return to the courts in the spring of 2019.
