Women's Tennis Earns First Win of 2019 Campaign
UPLAND, Ind. – The TU women's tennis team etched their first mark in the win column on Friday by defeating Anderson University 5-2. Friday's match marks Taylor's (1-2, 0-1) second game in a three-game homestand that kicked off on Thursday.
The Trojans got off to a hot start by winning 6-0 and 6-2 in No. 3 and No. 2 doubles respectively to earn the team point in doubles play. It was Kiersten Martin and Lauren Riegsecker who earned the shutout on court three, and the win moves them to 2-0 on the season with their wins coming on back-to-back days. Katelyn Gray and Lydia Browning secured the point with their 6-2 win on court two.
Needing three victories in singles play to secure the win, TU landed four. The Trojans earned wins behind the strong play of Julianna Hotmire, Riegsecker, Martin and Molly Pile in positions two through five.
"The ladies competed well today," said Coach Jon Wegener. "We still have several areas that need improvement, but I was happy with how they competed in the moments of opportunity today. I'm very proud of this team. Now we're focusing on recovering well and preparing for our league match tomorrow against Bethel."
Taylor will be back on Meier Courts for the third time in as many days on Saturday when they host Crossroads League opponent Bethel University. The contest is slated for an 11:00 a.m. start.
