TU Women Fall to Marian; Rebound against Wittenberg
UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor women's tennis team picked up a win on Saturday over Wittenberg after falling to NAIA No. 25 Marian to finish the day with an even 1-1 record. The Trojans (4-3, 2-2) are now winners in four of the last five contests.
In the opener, TU was overpowered by the 25th-ranked Knights and were unable to put a point on the board as they fell 7-0. However, the Trojans responded well and got back in the win column with a 4-3 victory over Wittenberg.
Taylor got off to a quick start against the Tigers, winning all three doubles matches by identical 6-4 final tallies. With the doubles point under their belt, TU looked to close out the contest in singles. TU landed those key wins in the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 matchups. Picking up those victories were Lauryn Riegsecker, Molly Pile and Lydia Browning. All three ladies finished off their individual matches in two sets.
"These ladies never give up, and I'm very proud to coach such a great group that always keep fighting no matter what the score is," praised Coach Jon Wegener. "We had a great home crowd today and felt a lot of support from the Taylor tennis fans. I'm looking forward to seeing how tough we can be on the road next week with three away matches."
The Trojans will be road warriors this week, making trips to Spring Arbor, Grace and Cedarville. The first match of the week is slated for Tuesday at Spring Arbor at 3:00 p.m.
