JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League announced its Athletes of the Week for Oct. 7-13 Monday afternoon, and Taylor freshman Jaynie Halterman collected the honor of Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the third time in as many collegiate races. Halterman was also named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Women's Athlete of the Week Monday for the third time.
Halterman bested the field of 134 runners at the Ray Bullock Invite, which was held at the TU Cross Country Farm on Oct. 11. The Thompson's Station, Tennessee, native finished the 6k course in 21:52.6, coming up 0.3 seconds short of the course record.
The freshman's win helped keep No. 2 Taylor (53-1) unbeaten against NAIA competition, as its only blemish on the record came when NCAA Division II institution, Fort Hays State narrowly beat out the Trojans on Sept. 27 at the Gans Creek Classic.
Halterman owns three of the five fastest times for TU on the season, with all of her finishes coming in under 22 minutes.
Second-ranked Taylor has its final tune-up before the CL Championships when it returns to action at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge on Oct. 26.
